A 57-YEAR-OLD man died after a fall at his Old Hill home, an inquest was told.

David Johnson, of Orchard Way, was found trapped between his sofa and an electric heater on the morning of November 14, with burns to his abdomen and right leg.

The retired construction worker, who was born in Wollescote, was taken to Russells Hall Hospital where he had become hypertensive and was admitted to the high dependency unit.

An inquest at Black Country Coroner's Court in Oldbury was told Mr Johnson’s condition declined rapidly and he died on November 16.

The court heard that Mr Johnson's daughter had said her father had been unwell for dew days prior to his death with increased confusion, diarrhoea and jaundice but had refused to be taken to hospital.

It was also said that Mr Johnson had a history of alcohol misuse and had struggled with his mobility since breaking his back around two-and-a-half years ago.

Mr Johnson was found collapsed by paramedics after his daughter became worried as he hadn't contacted her.

Senior coroner Zafar Siddique said: “It appears he may have tried to get off the sofa and was possibly going to toilet when he has fallen.”

The inquest was told that Mr Johnson had died from organ failure due to sepsis of unknown origin and severe burns.

Mr Siddique recorded that he had died by way of an accidental death due to the initial fall and injuries that he sustained.
