IT will be a race against time for Sandwell’s highways department as they attempt to get a Cradley Heath road reopened in time for tomorrow’s Christmas Lights switch on event.
Cradley Road has suffered multiple burst water mains this morning (Friday, December 1) meaning the street is currently closed to traffic.
Earlier this morning the road was made one-way after the first burst main caused the southbound carriageway, between High Street and Station Street.
Cradley Rd #CradleyHeath is currently one-way, southbound between High St & Station Rd, due to a burst water main. The road is to remain one-way until approx. 10am on Saturday 2nd Dec, all traffic management should be removed in time for the Christmas Lights switch on event. pic.twitter.com/DjFYdpeVDy

However, another main popped soon after, forcing highways to close the road to those travelling north.
A diversion has since been put in place via Station Street and Grainger’s Lane, but motorists are being warned to expect delays at and around the Five Ways junction.
Sandwell Highways said all traffic management should be removed by 10am tomorrow (Saturday) in time for the lights switch on.
