ANOTHER life-saving defibrillator has been installed at a Halesowen school after more than £2,000 was raised by pupils.

Fundraising for a first a piece of vital equipment at Huntingtree Primary School began at the start of 2017 with the defibrillator being installed at the Bournes Hill entrance before the summer break.

However, the school has now gone one better by raising even more money to install a second defib at its main Huntingtree Road entrance.

Staff at the school are now planning to run more training sessions with the new equipment for parents – as they did in the summer – so more people in the community have the potential to become a lifesaver.

Jim Harrold, headteacher, said: “Thanks to the fundraising efforts of pupils, parents and staff at Huntingtree Primary School, there are now two defibrillators in place – one at each entrance to the school.

“We raised £2,092 in order to purchase this second vital, life-saving equipment, which is now fully functional.

“This means that in emergencies they are accessible to all members of the local community, with easy access for the users of the park and community hub.”

He added: “Staff at Huntingtree Primary School are arranging training on the use of the defibrillators, which will be offered to parents shortly.”

The public access defibrillators (PADs) – which give a high energy electric shock to the heart through the chest wall to someone who is in cardiac arrest – are available to be used by anyone in an emergency.
