MP James Morris is set to speak about the running of Sandwell Council in Parliament this week.

The Halesowen and Rowley Regis MP will hold a House of Commons adjournment debate tomorrow (Thursday, January 25) regarding the governance and capabilities of the scandal-hit Labour-led authority.

In 2016 Mr Morris called for Government intervention into the council in a bid to prevent a repeat of the revelations of bullying and corruption detailed in the explosive Wragge Report.

At the time, the Conservative MP also called on Oldbury councillor Mahboob Hussain to stand down as an elected representative following publication of his alleged wrongdoing.

But Cllr Hussain, who has denied the allegations but was found by the council to have breached their code of conduct, is now also calling for the Government to intervene.

The former deputy council leader said: “I welcome any intervention by the Government or a fully independent body like The Local Government Association. They should intervene in Sandwell and should hold a fully independent investigation into what has been going on in Sandwell Council."
