RESIDENTS across the region have been shaken by an earthquake in the UK.

The earthquake struck at around 2.30pm today (Saturday, February 17).

Data from the United States Geological Survey measured the quake to be a 4.2 magnitude tremor, with its epicentre in Wales.

British Geological Survey (BGS) confirmed: "We are in the process of analysing data for the felt report of a tremor in the SW of England.

"As soon as we know more we’ll let you know."

The BGS added the epicentre was approximately 20km NNE of Swansea, with 4.4 magnitude at a depth of 7.4km.

"Events of this magnitude only happen in the UK every 2-3 years," they added.

The BGS is asking residents to inform them if they felt the tremor by completing a survey.

The tremor was felt across north Worcestershire and the Black Country.

In Bromsgrove, Alex Freeman said her house "definitely shook".

Gemma Harrison in Kidderminster said her "cabinets were shaking".

Nick Mackenzie in Halesowen also felt the earthquake.

Numerous people in Dudley also posted on Twitter that they felt the tremor.

And those in Stourbridge were also left in shock after experiencing the small earthquake.
