A YOUNG Halesowen pilot has achieved a dream which only a small number of people have completed by making his first solo flight at the age of 16.
Windsor High School student Kian Lowe celebrated his 16th birthday last week by taking to the skies at Halfpenny Green Airport.
The youngster has been learning to fly under the guidance of captain Rick Mayall at the Bobbington-based airport’s Air Midwest.
Kian – who still has a year to go until he can earn to drive a car – set the aim of flying solo by the time he reached 16 when he started lessons two years ago.
His dad John said: “We are all so proud of Kian and what he has been able to achieve at such a young age.
“It was a very emotional day as we were all nervous watching him flying for the first time by himself. We were quite relieved when he landed!”
Kian intends to complete his studies at Windsor’s sixth form so he can become a commercial pilot, and he is also continuing to extend his flying hours so he can complete his next aim of achieving his full licence on his 17th birthday.
