SPORTS clubs in Sandwell can once again apply for grants from the council as part of ongoing scheme.

Nearly £50,000 has been handed out to 60 borough clubs as part of the 'Cash for Sports Clubs' scheme, which is now in its third round after being launched in 2014.

Grants have been used by clubs to help fund new kits and equipment as well as to fund coaching courses and improve the quality of sessions.

Funding of up to £500 can be applied for to help with kits and equipment and up to £1,500 to help grow membership and increase the number of borough residents being active. The scheme also offers funding for specialist coaching.

The scheme was officially relaunched this week by West Bromwich Albion and England striker Jay Rodriguez and The Albion Foundation.

Councillor Paul Moore, Sandwell Council cabinet member, said: "We're really pleased to be able to offer these grants again this year to help out Sandwell sports clubs.

"These grants can make all the difference for local clubs and this scheme encourage people to get active and enjoy taking part in sport."
