A FAMILY-RUN Halesowen opticians took on a whole new look as staff celebrated World Book Day by raising money for charity.
The Cornbow Shopping Centre-based Scrivens Opticians and Hearing Care saw staff dress up for an Alice in Wonderland themed event on Thursday, while the store collected funds for the Alzheimer’s Society during a book sale.
Branch manager Dee Wilkes, who became the Queen of Hearts, said: “Alzheimer’s affects a growing number of people in our community and there is a real need for continued research and support.
“Our book sale was a chance for us to raise funds and awareness for a cause we care about.”
The store is also holding a competition for children to design a book cover, which will run until March 24, with the £1 entry fee going to the charity.
It is the fourth successive year Scrivens has supporting Alzheimer’s Society – due to the growing evidence of a link between uncorrected hearing loss and dementia, including Alzheimer’s – with staff and customers raising £35,000 last year.
