A YOUTH group has been given £1,000 from a house building firm to help fund vital community projects to help the disadvantaged.

The Shell Corner Youth Company provides support services for families and young people along with trips and summer schemes to help those in need.

The donation was made by house building firm CALA Homes through their ‘community bursary’ initiative. Shell Corner Youth Company was chosen as the recipient from a selection of groups and individuals who applied for the funds.

Some of the £1,000 pot has already been used to fund a series of photography workshops and a community fund day for group members.

Mark Wright, managing director at CALA Homes (Midlands), said: “When we first launched the Community Bursary scheme, we didn’t expect to receive so many inspiring applications from such incredibly worthwhile causes.

“It made selecting the successful groups extremely challenging but we are delighted to be working with Shell Corner Youth Company to support their programme of community events, trips and workshops.

“At CALA we strive to make communities, not just build homes, and the Community Bursary is a reflection of that ethos.

“We feel that it is very important for us to play an active role in our local community and hope this money goes some way towards supporting the fantastic work that Shell Corner Youth Company does.”
