AN elderly lady was taken to hospital after being cut out from her car following a crash in Oldbury this afternoon (Wednesday, April 4).

Emergency services were called to the junction of Perry Hill Road and Tame Road at about 12.48pm following reports of a collision between a car and a small van

West Midlands Fire Service sent a brigade response vehicle from Oldbury and a fire engine from Woodgate Valley to the scene, as the driver of the car – a woman in her 70s – needed to be cut free from her vehicle due to suffering neck pain.

A spokesman from West Midlands Ambulance Service, which had an ambulance and a paramedic officer attend the incident, said the woman also suffered pain to her head, as well as to her right side.

Once firefighters removed the roof of the car, the woman was extricated by firefighters and she was then given pain relief before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

An off duty nurse was present on the scene and was providing first aid, while the driver of the van did not require hospital treatment.

The road was closed following the incident, with Sandwell Highways tweeting to warn motorists of local delays.
