DISADVANTAGED Black Country families are set to get a helping hand from Hagley Golf Club after it joined forces with Blackheath-based charity Loaves ‘N’ Fishes.

Newly-appointed captain Geoff Tibbetts has overseen developments at the club since it was taken over by Lord and Lady Cobham almost 12 months ago, including the launch of a new logo and a name change to Hagley Golf Club.

As part of his role, Geoff – who praised the impact Lord and Lady Cobham have had since their arrival at the club – has chosen Vicarage Road-based charity as the club's chosen local cause to support during his tenure.

Geoff explained Loaves ‘N’ Fishes were an obvious choice as they “kit out families who have hit hard times through no fault of their own”.

The Christian inspired charity, which also has a ’12 Baskets’ shop in Halesowen Street, works to alleviate poverty across Dudley, Sandwell and the wider Black Country, collecting furniture, clothes, food and household items to help struggling families get their lives back on track.

The choice of Loaves ‘N’ Fishes as the club charity, which is chosen every year, coincides with the appointment of the charity’s new CEO Mark Price.

Mark said: “We’re so grateful to have the support of Geoff and everyone at Hagley Golf Club. We hope our partnership will raise awareness of the work we do as a charity and help increase our profile across the region.

“Geoff has donated a lot of furniture to our charity over the years so we have got to know him and his family very well, so we were delighted when he said he was choosing us as the club’s supported charity.

“With Geoff as the new captain of the golf club and myself as the new CEO of the charity, it just seemed right that we form this positive partnership.”

Hagley Golf Club will support Loaves ‘N’ Fishes by fundraising throughout the year and by encouraging members to donate unwanted furniture to the charity.
