A DECEITFUL driver was exposed as a speeding ticket liar by eagle-eyed West Midlands Police officers - from the paper perforations on a fake car receipt.

Gary Green has been jailed after he tried to con his way out of penalty points after being caught doing 39mph on Manor Lane, Halesowen, in a 30mph zone.

His Audi was clocked travelling above the speed limit last August but the 51-year-old said he was a motor trader and had already flogged the car at that point.

However, the name and address provided didn’t exist and further investigation revealed Green had re-registered the car to himself under a slightly different identity.

Green constantly tried to fib his way out of his predicament and produced a false receipt to say he bought the Audi back weeks after the speeding offence.

Even when clear CCTV showed him behind the wheel he suddenly remembered collecting the car to have it MOT’d, then having a window repaired for the customer.

When asked to provide documents to check other vehicles he had allegedly bought and sold he eventually provided a receipt book.

But officers believed the perforations on the pages did not appear to marry up with the book – which was backed up by forensic examination.

Under the weight of evidence against him Green, of Abbey Close, Bromsgrove, pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice.

He was jailed for six months at Wolverhampton Crown Court on May 23.

PC Steve Jevons, from the force's camera enforcement unit, said: “Speed limits are there to protect the lives of everyone on the roads.

“Green may have thought he was being clever with his lies but instead of a fine and penalty points he has now lost his freedom.

“The perforations on the paper claiming to be from the fake receipt book was the evidence which clinched his downfall. It just goes to show how eagle-eyed we are to secure justice.”
