Halesowen and Rowley Regis MP Sylvia Heal has called on homeowners to take action which could save their family's life.

She is encouraging all residents to book a free 40-minute Home Fire Safety Check, which will be carried out by firefighters.

As well as offering tips on fire prevention, each room in the property is assessed with potential hazards flagged up.

Each check also judges the needs of occupants so additional assistance can be provided to those most at risk, while smoke alarms with ten year batteries will be fitted for free where necessary.

Every year 350 people die in the UK due to fires in the home.

Sylvia said: "There are increasing numbers of smoke alarms being fitted in the local area, but still too many homes are unprotected. I am urging all constituents to make the call that could save their life and organise a visit from West Midlands Fire Service."
