A SERIES of temporary road closures are being put in place when Halesowen’s biggest outdoor event takes place next month.

The seventh annual Black Country Run will take place on Sunday, July 1, with thousands expected to take part and help raise much-needed funds for charities.

The popular 10km race is set to get underway at 10am while a Family Fun Run is due to start at 11.30am and to facilitate the events, road closures will be put in place on streets around the town centre.

From 6am until 1pm, Pool Road, Great Cornbow, Rumbow, Birmingham Street, Birmingham Road andHagley Road (section between Queensway roundabout and Hagley Street only).

While roads to be closed from 9am until 11am are Dogkennel Lane, Summer Hill (between Hagley Road and Queensway), Summer Hill (between Dogkennel Lane and Powell Street), Waxland Road and Broadway Avenue.

Dudley Council is urging people to use the alternative routes of New Road, High Street, Queensway and Bromsgrove Street during the town centre road closures, and for the other town closures motorists should use Blackberry Lane, Hagley Road, Huntlands Road, Blakedown Road and Pershore Road.

Residents are being told that access to frontages will be maintained.

Since the event was started in 2012 by the Rotary Club of Halesowen and Rowley Regis, more than £100,000 has been raised for Black Country and national charities.

Runners already signed up for this year’s race include West Midlands Mayor Andy Street, Halesowen and Rowley Regis MP James Morris, and Black Country hero ‘Blind Dave’ Heeley.
