PUPILS from Halesowen schools have held an ‘Eco Conference’ which focused on the issue of plastic pollution as part of World Oceans Day celebrations.
Delegates from eight schools came together at Lutley Primary School in Hayley Green – as part of the Lutley Eco Council – to learn more about the way plastics are affecting ocean wildlife and share thoughts and ideas about possible solutions.
They listened to a highly thought-provoking presentation from Transition Stourbridge, created artwork to help raise awareness in their schools and local communities and planned projects to try to reduce plastic waste.
Liz Cole, teaching assistant and Forest School leader at Lutley Primary, said: “The whole of Lutley School are studying the topic, with all lessons linked to ocean plastic – from analysing data to creating artwork from plastic to writing persuasive letters and holding debates.
“There is a huge buzz about the topic which demonstrates the school values of learning, caring and aiming high.”
Lutley Primary School has recently been awarded the UNICEF Rights Respecting Gold Award as part of its commitment to becoming ‘global change-makers’.
