DUDLEY Council leader Patrick Harley is set to head a new group to help deal with the region’s environmental challenges.

West Midlands Combined Authority's new environmental board, which will be headed by Cllr Harley - the WMCA's portfolio holder for environment, was proposed at a recent WMCA meeting.

The decision means the environment board will operate on the same basis as the combined authority’s other boards, with regular meetings and updates.

Members are set to gather for their first meeting on September 10, with the board consisting of members of the WMCA.

This will include the councillors who are cabinet members for environment from the seven constituent authorities, as well as three representatives from the non-constituent authorities.

At their first meetings, councillors will focus on the development of a regional low emissions strategy, annual update on progress on the environmental priorities plan and the approval of future two year environment priorities plan.

During the WMCA meeting on Friday (July 20), members of the combined authority were also presented with a paper covering the progress made on the environment over the past year.
