CONTROVERSIAL plans which could see an Oldbury park replaced with a shopping outlet is being discussed by councillors this evening (Thursday, July 26).
Members of Sandwell’s Audit and Risk Assurance Committee will receive a report on a proposal to build a shopping development on the site of Lion Farm Playing Fields.
A campaign group of local residents is opposing the scheme saying the council owned site is an important local amenity, and in June, 200 people formed a human chain on the playing fields in a symbolic gesture calling for their protection.
Councillors will examine the process which led to the proposed development for the £200 million designer outlet on the site close to Junction 2 of the M5.
Developers say the scheme could could lead to the creation of 2,000 jobs.
Opponents hope to present their arguments against the scheme at the meeting.
