AN Oldbury man knocked out a pensioner's front teeth when he punched him in the face during a totally unprovoked attack.

Kamil Goral, aged 34, grabbed 73-year-old Raymond Elwell and pushed him to the ground as the pensioner was making his way home in the Rood End area, said Richard Franck prosecuting.

He told Wolverhampton Crown Court that Goral who had been drinking heavily then rained punches on the head and face of the pensioner leaving him badly shocked.

In a victim impact statement the elderly man later told police officers he had suffered considerable pain and discomfort as a result of the attack.

He said he struggled to eat solid food and he was now too frightened to leave his home as he feared being targeted for a second time.

Recorder Jason Macadam told Goral: "This was an unprovoked and motiveless attack on a vulnerable victim, he was minding his own business and you attacked him."

The Recorder said Mr Elwell had suffered a lot of discomfort as a result of being repeatedly punched and it was clear his life had been affected by the actions of Goral.

Goral, a fork lift truck driver, now of no fixed address, was jailed for six months after he admitted assault causing actual bodily harm.

The Recorder ruled the offence was far too serious for anything other than a prison sentence.

Akaal Sidhu, for Goral, said it was an odd set of circumstances because the attack on the pensioner "came out of the blue".

He told the court that when Goral, who had little recollection of the incident, drank alcohol he lost control adding: "It was the drink that got the better of him."
