CRADLEY Heath’s Haden Hill Park is in the running to be named one of the country’s favourite green spaces.

Residents across the borough are being urged to vote for their favourite green space in a national poll – with Haden Hill and Oldbury’s Barnford Park among 10 Sandwell sites up for choosing.

Voting in Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag People’s Choice Awards closes on Sunday, September 30, with the 10 most popular parks and green spaces across the UK being announced in October.

Haden Hill Park was one of the 10 borough green spaces awarded the prestigious Green Flag award this year, and the People’s Choice Awards is a further chance for public recognition.

Councillor Steve Eling, leader of Sandwell Council, said: “We’re very proud to have 10 Green Flag-awarded parks and green spaces in Sandwell – and these include at least one park in each town. Parks and green spaces are incredibly important to us.

“I hope people can spare a moment to vote for their favourite in the nationwide People’s Choice Awards and help Sandwell’s parks and green spaces gain the wider recognition they deserve.”

Sandwell’s list for 2018 includes six town parks, a cemetery and crematorium, as well as Sandwell Valley Country Park and community-run Warley Woods.

Cllr Bill Gavan, cabinet member for leisure, added: “So many people are involved in keeping our parks and green spaces looking great – from council staff and the council’s waste partner Serco, to the friends groups, community groups and volunteers.

“To get in the national top 10 last year with Warley Woods was great and we’d love to do even better this year – so please, get voting and show your support.”
