SIX parks across Dudley are in the running to be named as the country’s favourite green space.

Residents across the borough are being urged to vote for their favourite green space in a national poll.

Stourbridge’s Mary Stevens Park, Dudley’s Buffery Park and Wrens Nest National Nature Reserve, Halesowen’s Leasowes Park and Coseley’s Silver Jubilee Park among those people can vote for.

Voting in Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag People’s Choice Awards closes on Sunday, September 30, with the 10 most popular parks and green spaces across the UK being announced in October.

Councillor Karen Shakespeare, Dudley Council’s cabinet member for environment, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people to show their love and support for some of the borough’s outstanding parks and I would ask everyone to do their bit by voting.

“We are incredibly grateful to the volunteer groups that have contributed so much to the Green Flag parks and proud of the work that goes into making these spaces so special.”

All six of the green spaces were awarded the prestigious Green Flag award this year, and the People’s Choice Awards is a further chance for public recognition.

Paul Todd, green flag award manager, said: “This year, 1,883 parks and green spaces met the tough standards demanded by our Green Flag Award judges but we want to know which parks the UK public love the most.

“The People’s Choice award is a chance to show how much your favourite park means to you. If it’s worth shouting about, make your voice heard and vote now.”
