HALESOWEN folk are being asked to help trace relatives of a couple who lived in Woodland Road back in the 1950’s.

It follows the discovery of two photographic albums that were rescued from the property that would prove of highly significant value to any remaining family members.

The albums were saved from the skip by Trevor Howard’s stepson while renovating the terraced properties believed to be at either No.64 or 66.

Mr Howard takes up the story, he said: “The houses were Victorian and in a dreadful state. There were about eight or nine of them still standing. My stepson was part of a crew doing some plastering work when he came upon the albums.

“One of them was of high quality and contained the wedding of Margaret E Groves to Alfred William Turner on March 27, 1954.

“The wedding had taken place at Immanuel Church in Highters Heath Lane, Warstock.

“A second album contains pictures of Mr Turner’s military service. I recognised the cap badge as the Royal Engineers and I believe pictures were taken in Egypt during the 1956 Suez Crisis.

“My stepson was advised to chuck them in the skip, but he realised straightaway that the albums were too good to throw away and brought them back home.

“That was six or seven years ago and I’m still trying to return them to their rightful home."

Mr Howard, who lives in Wolverhampton, revealed he’d tried to trace any living family members through the Royal Engineers and Immanuel Church, but without success.

He added: “I’ve kept the albums ever since and will continue to do so – but I hope there are some remaining members of the respective families who are alive that would get in touch and verify themselves.

“I would gladly deliver the albums to them."
