The Rowley Regis area look set to achieve a Mayoral hat-trick this year - as councillors Bob and Barbara Price and Iris Boucher have all been nominated for civic duties.

Postman and Blackheath councillor Bob Price will soon be swapping walking the borough's streets delivering mail for sitting in the back of a chauffeur-driven black limousine as the 54-year-old is to become Sandwell's next mayor. His wife, Rowley Regis cllr Barbara Price, will become mayoress.

The husband and wife team will take over from the current mayor Cllr Gurcharan Singh Sidhu and his daughter-in-law, mayoress Yvette Sidhu, in May.

A delighted Bob, who has worked for Royal Mail since he was just 15, said: "I have been given permission to take a one-year career break so that I can be a full-time mayor."

Bob has served on the council for Blackheath for the last 18 years while Barbara has been a Rowley councillor for ten years and is chair of the Rowley Regis Town Committee.

Bob said: "I am really chuffed, as is Barbara. It is a great honour and I am looking forward to promoting the borough and keeping it at the top of the agenda."

Alongside Bob and Barbara will be fellow Rowley Regis councillor Iris Boucher who has been nominated by council peers to serve as the borough's Deputy Mayor. Iris' husband Stephen will be her Deputy Mayor's Consort.

A thrilled Iris, who has served the council for over a decade, said: "It is wonderful news, I think it is a great honour to represent the borough.

"My husband Stephen is a staunch Labour supporter and has been a great support to me over the years."

The selection was made at the controlling Labour Group meeting.

Iris' recommendation will now go to the council's general purposes committee and then finally to the full council for final approval in a few weeks.

Council leader, Cllr Bill Thomas, said: "Both Bob, Barbara and Iris are very popular local councillors.

"Bob was a very successful deputy mayor a few years ago and I am sure that was perfect training for the top job where he will be an excellent, well respected first citizen."
