A superb team effort from Stourbridge Chess Club saw them walk away with the Homer Trophy.
The encounter was played at the neutral Warley Quinbourne venue.
First to finish on board four was Steve Jukes whose game offered little opportunity to both players and was quickly agreed a draw.
Meanwhile on board two Steve Foster swapped off pieces for an end game where he had a slight edge but his experienced opponent fought back to draw.
Team captain Eric Horwill had a slight advantage in his game but was unable to capitalise on it and again a draw was agreed.
Meanwhile on board one Jeremy Fallowfield had a great attack. His opponent's king was exposed and his opponent had only one minute left on his clock to make several moves.
Brian Dudley, still playing on board six, had a distinct advantage.
When Julie Wilson's opponent Steve Chadaway offered her the draw in an equal position she checked the match position and accepted.
This made it 2-2.
Jeremy's opponent then resigned making it 3-2 but Stourbridge was assured of the match win on board count.
Brian Dudley then did the gentlemanly thing and offered his opponent a draw which was accepted.
A delighted Eric Horwill said: "It was a tight match but still easier than expected. We've had a good run in since Christmas with only one loss".
The club meet every Wednesday at 7:30pm in the Stourbridge Institute. The club is open to players of all abilities and ages.
Anyone interested in coming along should contact the club secretary Dave Scriven on 01384 423642.
