Halesowen Flower Club

12:39pm Thursday 24th April 2008

The Chairman, Cynthia Slade welcomed everyone to the April meeting and introduced Area Demonstrator Janet Woodfield, who entertained us with her interesting chat and striking arrangmenets.

The title of her demonstration was "Now that April's here" - which inspired us not only to think about beautiful spring flowers but also thoughts for the coming year.

Her continental spring flower arrangement, designed in a large distressed wooden box included contorted willow and golden philadelphus, pink and red tulips, pink and blue hyacinths, daffodils and narcissus.

Her next arrangement was a triangular shape designed in a large urn, which might be seen in a large country house. It included a wonderful mixture of foliages, white oriental lilies, large white crysanths, carnations and white September flower.

Thoughts next turned to hats, perhaps for a spring wedding, and this design included pink stargazer lilies, pink carnations and roses all arranged as though in a hat box.

The final two arrangements were more exotic bringing thoughts of holidays. A tall design incorporating Monstera leaves, peppers, deep maroon lilies and bright orange gerberas was stunning.

Janet's final arrangement, inspired by her holidays in China was a tall structure representing a Pagoda with Buddha. It had three fan-shaped placements incorporating red carnations, green shamrock crysanths, and green and red orchids.

Margaret Kimberlin thanked Janet for a most enjoyable evening.

The next meeting will be on May 8 at 7.30pm in the Shenstone Theatre, Halesowen Library, and will include a plant sale.

Visitors welcome. We have an open evening on June 11 in the Cornbow Hall when National Demonstrator Margaret Ecclestone will be demonstrating "Purely for Pleasure". Tickets £5. All welcome.
