ASPIRING teachers across the Black Country are invited to try their hand at teaching for the day.

Ormiston Forge Academy in Cradley Heath and Ormiston NEW Academy in Wolverhampton, both part of Ormiston Academies trust (OAT), are offering taster days to give those that might fancy a career in teaching chance to find out what it takes to work in a local school.

Aspiring teachers will be given the opportunity to teach pupils in a one-to-one session.

They will also be able to observe lessons of the subject they are interested in, meet and talk to teachers and those icurrently training and ask any questions they have about the profession.

The taster days will be open to those looking for a teaching career in a range of subject areas, including maths, English, science, the arts and humanities.

Kaye Patrick, lead practitioner for early career development at Ormiston Academies Trust, said: “We wanted to provide those in the local area with a chance to experience what it is like to be a teacher and see how providing young people with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed can be incredibly rewarding.

“Across our academies, we have seen so many of our inspiring teachers and trainees who have really demonstrated what it means to rise the challenge of changing the lives of students from all backgrounds. With this opportunity, we look forward to welcoming those who want to follow in their footsteps.”

The taster days are being run in collaboration with The OAKS (Ormiston and Keele Scitt), which is an Ofsted outstanding provider of initial teacher training, working with hubs spread across the UK.

The dates will be spread across January to May 2023 and the academy is encouraging anyone interested in taking part to contact Kaye Patrick by emailing kaye.patrick@ormistonacademies.co.uk
