AN Oldbury church has called on people to help them tackle the fight against poverty.

The church is appealing for help to support people who are struggling to afford the basics in life.

Kings Community Church in Oldbury has been working with the charity Christians  Against Poverty (CAP) which has launched a campaign designed to help support those in crisis across the Dudley and Sandwell regions.

Their 'Taking on Poverty' report highlights the amount of people in debt, which in turn  is putting more pressure on their finances.

Sarah Jordan, CAP's debt centre manager, said: "We are positively fighting against poverty in our area by offering free practical help such as emergency supplies of food and energy top ups to those in crisis plus free debt advice to anyone in need.

"CAP's landmark report highlights the desperate struggles our clients are facing right now.

"We know of people who wake up in the night with anxiety attacks over money because their income is so low, that they are falling deeper into debt.

"As part of our  Taking on Poverty campaign we are asking local people to join us in tackling poverty here in Sandwell and Dudley.

"Behind the stats are real families and individuals in desperate need. CAP and Kings Community Church are working to help people break free from the chains of poverty and there of plenty of ways that people can support us".

CAP is calling on people to help, either by volunteering,  raising awareness on social meda, donating to CAP or by taking on a fun fundraising challenge.
