EYESORE shops which blighted Colley Gate for decades have finally disappeared from the horizon.
The four shops on Colley Gate are no more after they were flattened by Dudley Council.
The decaying empty shops have been a blot on the landscape for what has seemed like an eternity.
Nearby shop Nisa local said on social media: "Going going gone!
"Derelict shops are NO more! "Nisa can never say “past the derelict shop and it’s on the left” ever again!
"Congratulations Colley Gate and with the old Labour club (Wilson Hall) becoming a sports bar and grill, the car park on Mapletree lane being resurfaced (in a few months) and the demolition of these eyesore shops, Colley Gate is well and truly on the up."
The cash-strapped council dropped plans to build a block of eight flats on the site, after deciding to spend cash on maintaining its existing stock, rather than new builds.
Council officers are expected to declare the site surplus to requirements and look at options for redevelopment, which could include putting the site on the open market, or selling it to a social housing provider.
Dudley Council has been contacted for comment.
