An Oldbury father who went on a wrecking spree with a crowbar before threatening police with a kitchen knife has been jailed for two years.

Kevin Jones, aged 33, used the crowbar to smash windows and dent bodywork on cars parked near his home in Pool Lane.

Wolverhampton Crown Court heard today how Jones was shouting, "I'm going to kill everyone" and was so aggressive police had to use CS gas and batons to restrain him before carrying out an arrest.

Alka Brigue, prosecuting, said when interviewed afterwards Jones, who smashed a TV and damaged the living room in his home the previous evening, said he had family problems.

Judge Graham Styler told him: ”This was a most terrifying incident in a public street on a Sunday morning.

"You were wielding these weapons and you damaged six cars."

The Judge said Jones had behaved "appallingly" towards the police officers called to the scene and said it was clear he posed the risk of causing future harm to members of the public.

Jones who, the court heard, had previous convictions for offences involving weapons, violence and damage admitted six charges of damaging cars.

He further admitted affray and possessing an offensive weapon and was told the offences were so serious only a substantial sentence of custody was appropriate.

Gary Cook, defending, told the court that Jones was "clearly a man who was under great strain at the time."
