Campaigners have lost the battle to save a Quinton post office.
Post Office Ltd today confirmed one of the ward’s two branches on Court Oak Road will shut as part of 2,500 closures nationwide.
The decision will anger hundreds of residents who fought to save the branch during a recent consultation period. Protestors signed petitions, organised meetings and even produced an eight minute video explaining why the post office was so important.
Quinton Conservative Parliamentary candidate and Edgbaston Constituency councillor Deirdre Alden said she believed Post Office officials had not taken the consultation process seriously.
Cllr Alden said: “I am very disappointed and I feel sorry for all the residents who worked so hard to make their feelings known.
“The speed with which this final announcement has come gives the impression a decision had already been made before the consultation process began.”
Quinton is now left with three post offices – one on Court Oak Road, one on Worlds End Lane and one on Hagley Road West.
