An Old Hill charity is celebrating an expansion which has seen it move to bigger premises in Cradley Heath.

Loaves n' Fishes collects unwanted items such as beds, sofas, tables and kitchenware and distributes them to those who need them - sometimes people who have as little as just a sleeping bag - for free.

The Christian project has started 2009 in fine style with an expansion which has seen it move from its old home - a garage in Lotus Drive to new premises in Waterfall Lane, Cradley Heath.

The charity's new building is a former church and means it has twice as much room to store donated furniture.

Founders Steve and Anna Hartland are delighted with the move.

Anna said: "It's fantastic - we have lots more room and we have heating now which we never had in the old place.

"People can also come and drop items off to us on Tuesdays from 9am till 3pm."

Anna said a group of ladies are thinking about opening a Christian cafe at the site.

The project is run entirely by volunteers and relies on donations from kind-hearted people, including an 87-year-old lady who wishes to remain anonymous, who makes a monthly donation.

It has to cover its £400 a month rent, insurance, and running costs for its two vans.
