AS BRITAIN basks in a heatwave, South Staffs Water is reminding everyone of the importance to health of drinking plenty of water.
“Much of the body is made up of water – up to about 70 per cent in fact, so as we lose water through sweating, it is important to replenish it,” said Mike Turrell, Director of Water Quality with South Staffs Water. “In fact, if you’re feeling thirsty, you could already be in the early stages of dehydration.”
A lack of water can lead to dehydration, with symptoms including lethargy, headaches and constipation. In the elderly, it may also lead to dizziness, which may result in falls or trips.
The advice is quite simple: Top-up your water bottle with fresh tap water throughout the day and keep it with you so you can take regular sips. If you enjoy a cold drink of water why not fill a jug from your tap and keep it in your fridge?
If your children won't drink water, add a small amount of squash as encouragement.
