A BID to highlight green spaces and other environmental assets across Sandwell and the Black Country to make the area more tempting to visitors and investors is being launched by planners.
The Environmental Infrastructure Guidance policy, put together by planners from the borough council and neighbouring authorities, looks at how the Black Country’s canals, open spaces, wildlife habitats and historic character can be made more accessible and improved to help regenerate the area.
The document sets out standards to be used when new developments take place to ensure they cater for a variety of uses and to prepare for the effects of climate change.
Sandwell’s cabinet member for regeneration and transport councillor Bob Badham said: "Residents and visitors should be able to easily walk or cycle to the many miles of canal and green spaces that we have in the area.
"This is what Environmental Infrastructure Guidance is trying to achieve, as well a providing links for wildlife to migrate and form habitats."
He added: "It can help reduce those activities which contribute to climate change while also trying to make our local environment more resilient to the effects of change."
