Boat pull for Old Hill church

A TRIO of narrowboats will be leaving Halesowen and making their way to the Black Country Festival as part of the fundraising effort for an Old Hill church. Fundraisers for Holy Trinity Church decided to draw upon the trinity idea as a theme and want to use this year’s boat pull to illustrate three historical methods of transport on the waterways. With Hayne Basin as the starting point one boat will use a motor, one will use man power and the third will be pulled by Prince, a Clydesdale horse who gained fame when he pulled a boat for TV personality Fred Dibnah, and whose owner Jayne Broadkey was horse handler at the Black Country Museum for six years. The three boats will be setting off a week on Saturday (Sep 12) to make their way to Windmill End in Nethrton for the Black Country Festival. Last year’s boat pull raised £1,700 for the Holy Trinity Church regeneration fund and organisers are hoping to better that figure this year. The boat pull fundraising team have devised fun ways of helping raise funds and being involved. To find out more call 07789 692321 or visit www.holytrinity-oldhill.org.uk/boatpull.htm
