A HALESOWEN charity fundraiser performed a trolley dash at the opening of the town's new 99p stores.
Irene Layton, chairwoman of the Halesowen branch of the Mary Stevens Hospice fundraising group, scooped up 67 products in the 99 second dash which she will use for her charity work.
The 77-year-old, who has received an MBE, had her haul quadrupled by store bosses.
A spokesman for the firm said shoppers queued down the street for the opening of the store in the Cornbow Shopping Centre at 59/61 Queensway – between Murray’s Chemist and the ASDA entrance.
The Halesowen branch, which opened on Friday (September 25), is the 108th store the Daventry based chain, has opened in the UK. It has created 30 full and part-time jobs.
The company employs more than 3,000 people across the UK.
