HALESOWEN and Rowley Regis MP Sylvia Heal has been asked by Commons auditor Sir Thomas Legg to provide receipts for Sky television and evidence her second home had rising damp.

And Stourbridge and Cradley MP Lynda Waltho has been asked to pay back £134.01 to the taxpayer concerning a cleaning bill when she was house sharing with two other MPs.

The Halesowen MP was one of the last MPs to relieve a letter from the Sir Legg concerning her expenses claims over the last five years.

In a statement to The Halesowen News Sylvia Heal said: “I am now in receipt of my letter from Sir Thomas Legg regarding my use of the Additional Costs Allowance between 2004 – 2009.

“His letter has highlighted two issues that require further evidence, which I am able to provide and happy to comply with.”

She added: “The first is in the telecommunications category, where I need to provide receipts for four months Sky rental which I am able to do.

“The second in the Maintenance category, where I need to provide evidence again that work was required to prevent rising damp in my second home.

“This information relates to work carried out 4 years ago, and was originally provided to the Fees Office in 2005.”

She added: “Three weeks have been allotted for MPs to make representations about Sir Legg’s provisional conclusions and I will be sending him the further information and documents in relation to the above.”

Lynda Waltho MP released a statement making it clear that her expenses were within the limit of the rules at the time of the claims.

She said: “Sir Thomas Legg has queried a cleaning bill that relates to a period when I shared a flat with two other MPs. It was a condition of the tenancy that we employ a cleaner and we paid the going rate.

“He has applied a single person’s allowance to three of us as co-habiting residents. I have been asked to pay back £134.01, my share of what he considers in his retrospective ruling to be an over payment.

She added: “Naturally I will pay back the amount but I emphasise that should this ruling have existed at the time I would have ensured my claim was within the limit.”
