THE foundations of Windsor High School’s brand new sixth form centre and sports hall have been laid.
Luminaries from the school, council and construction firm gathered to mark the historic moment for the Halesowen school.
The £6.5million project is due for completion in August will include science laboratories, new classrooms, an independent learning centre and sports hall.
Headteacher Keith Sorrell said: “It is an exciting moment for Windsor that the first foundations are dug for the new sixth form.
“I’m delighted the construction has begun so promptly and look forward to extending our ‘outstanding’ provision into our Sixth Form next year.
“And it will be the only school Sixth form in the local area providing an extra choice for students and parents in the locality.”
Windsor Sixth Form will cater for 300 students and the first intake will be in September 2010 and there will be an open evening on Tuesday October 20 between 6.30pm-9.30pm.
And the new sixth form is being built by Halesowen based firm A and H Construction which will help keep local jobs in the area.
A spokesman for the company said: “A and H Construction has a wealth of experience within the Local Authority and Educational sector.
“Our project range comprises both construction and refurbishment of General Primary and Secondary School facilities as well as extensive works within University education and accommodation areas.”
