HALESOWEN and Rowley Regis MP Sylvia Heal has slammed people who criticise the increase of health and safety regulations in Britain.

The MP has backed the Stop taking the Myth campaign which agrees banning games of conkers is bonkers but health and safety saves lives.

Sylvia Heal MP said: “Sometimes people can be over cautious when motivated by a fear of being sued and it is an easy excuse.

“The stories we hear can undermine the serious issues which do result in injuries and even death and I think this campaign is important in highlighting the benefits of health and safety.”

The MP added: “Other examples of where ‘health and safety’ has been cited as an excuse to ban them include pancake races and throwing sweets from the stage in pantomimes.

“We should all use our common sense and recognise that limitations are put in place to stop genuine injuries and accidents from occurring.”

The amount of people being injured or killed at work is on the rise with 64 under 19s killed at work in the last ten years and nearly 15,000 suffered major injuries.
