The sister of the Halesowen man who died in a rock climbing accident in New Zealand this weekend has praised her ‘beautiful brother’.
Matthew Allison fell 400 feet to his death on Friday whilst descending Chinaman’s Buff in the Dart River Valley.
His family in Halesowen were informed on Saturday of his death and sister Katie led the tributes to her fun loving brother.
She said: “I don’t have the words to express how lost I am without my beautiful brother, he truly was the light of my life and many others too.”
She added: “His spirit touched so many people and will continue to through all the memories we have, he was one of a kind.”
And she admitted the sudden nature of Matthew’s death came as a massive shock.
She said: “I still cannot believe he’s gone, I cant imagine the rest of my life without him. He will live on in the memories he all share of him.”
Matthew, who attended Windsor High School and Halesowen College, had travelled around Australia and New Zealand but had settled in Wanaka in February.
He had already made an impression on his adopted country by campaigning for the reduction of plastic bag use and he was part of the Wastebusters' Get Real campaign.
