Concert for heroes hailed a success

A CRADLEY Heath choir's concert in honour of heroes who have given their lives serving their country has been hailed a success.

Voices in Harmony staged the concert called The Armed Man - A Mass for Peace - to commemorate Remembrance Day on November 14 at St Paul's Church, Long Lane, Blackheath.

The choir and its orchestra performed the work which was composed by Karl Jenkins and is a powerful account of the terrible consequences of war.

The work was commissioned for the millennium by Britain's Royal Armouries and dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo crisis.

Choir spokeswoman Jen Kerrison said: "The work’s haunting and emotive pieces were excellently portrayed by the choir, its soloists and musicians.

"The audience was given greater understanding of the work as it was enhanced by an IT visual backdrop depicting the many scenes of war."

White poppies were worn by the choir for peace without violence.

Jen said: "Some choir members have served in different wars and with others, felt this to be an awesome tribute to The Armed Forces in present conflicts.

"It was a privilege for the choir to perform under the excellent baton of its musical director Stephen Bradley."
