Fantastic Mr Fox fe-line fine at the top of the libraries chart

FANTASTIC Mr Fox by Roald Dahl has been named the most read book in local libraries during September and October.

Book worms can stay in tune with the most popular reads in the borough when the list of top ten borrowed books in libraries is published every two months. The list is collated as part of Public Lending Right, which is funded by the department for media and sport (DCMS) and is a good sign of what’s proving a hit with borrowers of all ages.

The Roald Dahl classic was borrowed 100 times in the last two months, topping the list of the top ten books borrowed in libraries across the borough.

It was closely followed by No Time for Goodbye by Linwood Barclay, which was borrowed more than 90 times and The Enormous Crocodile, another Roald Dahl favourite which was issued 72 times.

Also in the top ten were When will there be good news by Kate Atkinson, The Island by Victoria Hislop and Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs by author Ian Whybrow and illustrator Adrian Reynolds.

Councillor David Simms, cabinet member for housing, libraries and adult learning, said: “The list is a really good indication of which books are proving popular with our borrowers and just shows how classics such as Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox are still proving a hit with our younger readers.”
