A "VIOLENT" Halesowen men who savagely stabbed his partner in the face with a knife after he had been drinking heavily has been jailed for three years.

Recorder Peter Cooke told 35-year-old Andrew Huxley he had to pass a sentence to "protect the public" because of his "uncontrolled and cruel" violence in domestic situations.

He said Lindsey Heritage, the victim of his brutal attack, had described him as a "Jekyll and Hyde" character who was good when sober and bad when drunk.

The judge said at Wolverhampton Crown Court: "You are in my judgement a dangerous offender.

"You are a man who poses a significant risk of future violence."

Huxley had denied wounding Miss Heritage but was convicted by a jury at the end of his trial and the Recorder ruled his licence on release from custody should be extended to five years.

He said Huxley was a "man with an established history of violence" and he had previous convictions including armed robbery, wounding and possessing a firearm.

The Recorder said Huxley, of Green Lane, got into an argumentative mood after a drinking session and was told to calm down by Miss Heritage but took the knife out of his pocket and "went at her."

Huxley cut her on the right cheek before telling his partner he loved her but she said if he had feelings for her he would not have used the knife on her face.

Recorder Cooke said: "Your reaction was to tell her 'I can do worse than that' and, as she tried to fend you off, you pinned her to a couch, lunged at her face and drove the knife into her left cheek."

He said Huxley had shown no remorse whatsoever and had tried to fool the jury into believing his partner had used the knife to stab herself.

In a victim impact statement Miss Heritage said she felt sick everytime she thought of the incident which had left her with emotional scars.

She said: "I don't want to see him again or speak to him again.

"I don't know what I did for him to hurt me the way he did."
