THE DANGERS of mixing alcohol and cocaine will be hit home to Christmas revellers in the borough this festive season.
Safe & sound, Dudley’s community safety partnership, has launched a campaign to raise awareness of the potentially lethal substance cocaethylene - a chemical found when alcohol and cocaine are taken together.
The hard hitting ‘drop dead gorgeous’ campaign features a reveller who has suffered the consequences.
Cocaethylene is so toxic it can cause sudden heart failure.
The risk of sudden death is 18 times higher if people take cocaine and alcohol together. And people are being warned taking one line of cocaine can produce toxic levels of cocaethylene.
Councillor Adrian Turner, cabinet member for community safety, said: “Young adults need to be aware of these dangers. Alcohol and cocaine are a lethal mix and as well as cardiac-related illness, combining cocaine and alcohol has been linked to irrational and violent behaviour.”
The campaign will be rolled out in bars across the borough.
