AN AMBULANCE responding to a 999 call crashed in Rowley Regis resulting in one of the crew being rushed to hospital.
The incident happened yesterday at 5.10pm in Jeffrey Road when the ambulance and another vehicle crashed in to one another.
Traffic in Rowley Regis and Blackheath ground to a standstill after the accident causing long tailbacks on the Oldbury Road.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We can confirm an ambulance was involved in a collision with another vehicle in Rowley Regis on Wednesday.
“At the time of the collision, the ambulance was responding to a 999 call to a medical emergency in Halesowen to which a rapid response vehicle was already en route.
“Another ambulance was immediately dispatched to this emergency.”
He added: “An incident support officer, a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance crew were sent to the scene of the collision in Rowley Regis.
“A member of the ambulance crew had neck pain and was immobilised with the use of a spinal board and neck collar before being taken to Sandwell General Hospital.”
The driver of the other vehicle was checked over at the scene but did not go to hospital.
