Grants up for grabs for voluntary groups

VOLUNTARY groups across the Dudley borough which help to support adults in the community and promote social activities, are being urged to apply for funding.

A total of £47,120 is available in the Small Grants Scheme this year.

The closing date for entries is Friday April 2 and groups are encouraged to get their applications in as soon as possible.

The Dudley Council scheme is aimed particularly at groups that provide leisure or social activities and look to extend their services to include people with disabilities and older people.

The financial support will be made available to the groups in areas ranging from running costs, purchasing equipment and training expenses.

Last year 100 organisations benefited from the small grants scheme.

These ranged from grants as small as £200 up to £2,000 and provided funding to support venue hire, running costs and transport.

Councillor Lesley Faulkner, cabinet member for adult and community services, said: “We are committed to supporting the invaluable work that voluntary groups and volunteers carry out in Dudley. "Each year the small grants scheme offers a great way for these groups to access small amounts of money that can make a real big difference.

“This funding could help allow disabled and vulnerable older people take part in all kinds of activities and I would urge all eligible groups to get their applications in as soon as possible.”

The closing date will be Friday April 2 and all applications need to meet the criteria outlined in the application pack which can be obtained by ringing 01384 815140 or by visiting www.dudley.gov.uk. Support will be available to help completion of applications.
