Halesowen College students have been researching the 1950s as they prepare to show off their textile skills in a special exhibition called `Kitchen Kitsch’.
Twenty two students on the National Diploma Textiles with Fashion Studies course are designing their own apron.
They researched the theme by looking at old wallpapers, more tacky ornaments like flying ducks, 1950’s pin up girls and the seaside.
They will be experimenting with felt making and embroidery techniques to design and make the apron. The year two students have been working on the project since December.
Their designs will be on show in block seven of the Whittingham Road campus for one week from Monday 8 February.
The students will also be the curators of the exhibition and will be responsible for working as a group to set up the show for the public.
Becky Howson, course leader at Halesowen College, said: “This project will help students hone their design skills.
"They have the freedom to produce their own design and enjoy the fun element of kitsch.”
