CHILDREN are going wild at a natural play area created in Rowley Regis - bringing fun and nature together.

The Brickhouse Open Space in Harvest Road, boasts swings a roundabout, seesaw, trim trail and climbing net and a wildflower meadow is to skirt the perimeter.

Brickhouse Primary School pupils joined Sandwell Council officers on Tuesday to help sow the wild seed after they and residents had worked with officers on the design of the open space.

It is one of 28 being created throughout the borough as part of the Government-funded Play Pathfinder project which is jointly managed by the council’s children and young people services, cultural services and highways and environment.

Play strategy manager Samantha Barratt said: "This is a superb example of how different council departments and local communities can work together to achieve outstanding results."

Cherie O’Sullivan, play in parks officer added: "I am sure the children will feel some ownership of the site when they see their wildflower meadows growing in and amongst the play equipment. It is great to see the children enjoying playing outdoors and getting involved with nature."
