WITH the trend for ‘staycations’ showing no signs of abating, Kiln Park’s coastal location, top-notch accommodation and family entertainment offer everything you need for a great British summer holiday.

Haven’s holiday centre near the popular Welsh resort of Tenby boasts direct access to the beach and Pembrokeshire National Park plus all the facilities and attractions your kids could possibly want - come rain or shine.

Our visit coincided with Kiln Park’s Big Green Weekend which focused on the site’s award-winning eco credentials and included a night-time bat walk, mini-beast hunt, eco treasure hunt and visits from birds of prey and reptiles.

But there is plenty to do all year round from the indoor and outdoor pools with inflatables and aqua jets to archery and fencing coaching plus crazy golf and pool tables.

And toddlers to teens will find a kids’ club to suit them with activities including Annabel’s Creative Kitchen, a teddy bears’ picnic, Wake & Shake classes and Haven’s Got Talent – where young stars can be spotted!

At night the place to be is the Live Lounge where the grown-ups can let their hair down once the kids are safely tucked up in bed or enjoying the Funworks amusements. With live music, cabaret, bingo and nightly discos you can dance the night away or pay a visit to the Mash and Barrel if you prefer a more traditional pub setting.

There is an on-site convenience store plus a launderette, gift shop and even a petrol station to fill up for those day trips. Having spent several childhood school holidays in the area it was a pleasure to revisit Tenby’s harbour with its pastel-coloured properties and explore the rugged coastline around nearby Manorbier again.

Kiln Park offers a choice of accommodation from top-of-the-range Prestige holiday homes to the more economical Superior range. All offer two/three bedrooms and have a lounge with TV, a well equipped kitchen/dining area, shower and WC. The price includes full use of the park facilities and entertainment.

We stayed in a Prestige three-bed, 12-foot wide home which sleeps up to six and boasts top quality furnishings, gas fire in the lounge and a colour TV with DVD player. Prestige guests also get priority check-in from 2.30pm and beds are made up for you on arrival.

All accommodation is self-catering but there’s no need to venture off the park for a bite to eat as the new Papa John’s Pizza delivery service, Burger King outlet or Mash and Barrel pub offer meals to suit most tastes.

Breaks in August start at £749 for a family of up to six in two bedroom Superior accommodation – based on 7 nights from the 20th.

Touring caravans and tents are also welcome at Kiln Park with basic pitches from £9 per night, per person.
