THE GOVERNMENT have promised to hold English Heritage to its responsibilities to the conservation of Halesowen Abbey.

John Penrose MP, the Minister for Heritage, spoke at a debate in Parliament about heritage sites secured by Halesowen MP James Morris.

Mr Morris outlined his concerns for Halesowen Abbey during and asked whether or not English Heritage will be willing to conduct impromptu site visits.

The Minister will now ask English Heritage to respond to every point raised.

James Morris said: “Now that planning permission has been approved for the Abbey, I am keen to ensure that English Heritage play an effective role in securing its future.

“I am pleased that the Minister for Heritage is aware of my concerns and is going to remain engaged in the process.”

The MP also questioned English Heritage’s ability, willpower and means to look after heritage throughout the country.

The Minister then added that English Heritage should now look at the effectiveness of their internal processes.
