AN X Factor-style contest is being launched to find talented young musicians in and around Halesowen.

The Halesowen Foundation is holding the competition for the first year and the spotlight will shine on contestants on Saturday February 12.

Youngsters will perform in front of judges in four categories, digital music and percussion, brass and woodwind, piano and strings and voice. There are also three age groups, under 11s, 11-15 and 16 plus.

Winners from each category and age range will be invited to a celebration dinner at Halesowen College’s restaurant where trophies and certificates will be presented.

Director Keith Bate said: “This is the first year we have held this competition and we are really eager to see the range of talented young people. I know already that the judges will have a really difficult decision.

“I would urge everyone to get their entry forms filled in as soon as possible to be part of this exciting new competition.”

Entry forms and the terms and conditions can be downloaded from Halesowen Foundation’s website www.halesowenfoundation.org The closing date is Friday January 14.

The foundation is a registered charity which supports local learners to develop their talents in music and sport through bursaries.
