SANDWELL Council is waiting to hear if it can modernise nine borough schools following “positive" talks with the Government this week.

Council leader Cllr Darren Cooper met with schools minister Lord Hill over the fate of Sandwell's £125 million Building Schools for the Future project on Monday.

Earlier this year the Government was forced to rethink its decision to axe BSF after losing a judicial review in the High Court.

Cllr Cooper said: "It was a positive meeting and Lord Hill listened attentively to the case we put forward.

“We have been here before though and I hope the Government has the courage to do what's right by our pupils and let us go ahead and modernise our schools."

The nine schools were in the second wave of BSF projects and included Perryfields High School, Bristnall Hall Tecnology College and special school The Meadows Sports College, all in Oldbury along with The Heathfield Foundation Technology College, Cradley Heath.
